A great deal of things can cause morning anxiety. The stress level cortisol is one of those things. Cortisol is a hormones released into the adrenal glands in response to fear or stress. There have been studies that CAR or Cortisol Awakening Response is highest within the first hour of waking for people who have a great deal of stress in their lives.

Another contributing factor can be your blood sugar levels. While you sleep, you are fasting, therefore your blood sugar can be low in the morning, this can be another cause of morning anxiety. Aside from these physical causes, trauma and PTSD can be a contributing factor.
